Scott Hewelt - # 63 - Bio / Profile

Scott has been riding motorcycles since age 7 (late 60's), sleds since the early 70's.  He raced Motocross in the late 70's and ran 250 Pro for 1 season in Michigan.  He stopped racing when he began college, pursuing his Electrical Engineering Degree.  He got back into riding sleds in the Early 90's and started racing Vintage Sleds in 2004.  He placed 5th in the world at Eagle River in the 340  Single MOD Class on a borrowed sled in 2004.  He placed 5th in 2006 on the Trail-Twister (pictured), without any steering.  He found out after the race a suspension component had broke in the heat-race, greatly reducing ski-pressure for the final.

He is a State Certified DNR Snowmobile Safety Instructor & volunteers to teach
the Snowmobile Safety course to middle-schoolers in the community.  He has raced everything from motorcycles to hydroplanes and snowmobiles in the past.  He is also a Certified Tier Level-II Test driver for automotive testing.
He is the
owner of HewTech Electronics LLC, and designed the FIREPLUG CDI back in 1997 for the Kohler engine (Mercury Prestolite replacement).  The replacement CDI was very expensive & there was no quality replacements available. His interest in Vintage snowmobiles coupled with his background in  Electrical Engineering & desire for quality products was the combination that started his design work on the FIREPLUG CDI.  He used Vintage Snowmobile racing to test his ignition products, and looks for good quality when setting up the sled.  That search is what brought HewTech Electronics LLC together with ORPS.  He found that they can't test their products at racing levels without quality support components in the suspension, motor-mounts, handle-bars, basically everything has to work together. That's why you will see the ORPS and www.CDIBOX.com  / HewTech Electronics LLC decals on all of their race sleds!  If you see them at the races...watch closely, you will see some of the ORPS parts in action!
